This was one of the worst hair salon experiences I have ever encountered. Not only were the receptionists rude when I was making my appointment, acting like it was a chore that I called in the first place, but once I was there, Taylor gave me one of the worst haircuts I have ever received. I came in with very long hair and asked for a cut to shoulder length, I brought pictures, and explained that my hair would curl up as it got shorter. Apparently, none of this made any difference as I walked out of the salon with a bob cut that I now have to straighten every day or else it just looks like a bad poof on my head. I am sure this salon has some great stylists, but from experience, I would say to avoid booking with Taylor unless you are only in need of a tiny trim. I would not recommend this salon and I am sad to have gotten such a poor haircut from an Aveda salon.

Liked the end result.
Extremely disliked the experience! Completely soaked while washing the product from my hair. I’m glad I was wearing a smock. Stylist was exceptionally rough throughout the experience. I walked out with a headache afterwards.

Worst customer service experience I have had in recent memory. Ranks among those I have when traveling super cheap air carriers. I came in today for an afternoon appointment. On my way in, I got stuck in multiple traffic delays due to a heavy downpour. The rain was coming down so hard that I couldn't see the vehicle in front of me.Cars were moving at a snail's pace from I64 all the way through to the 250 bypass. I arrived just 10 minutes late. As I was parking my car the receptionist told "they have a policy that says you can only be 9 minutes late but because I was 10 minutes late that I would have to reschedule. As a family we been coming to Face Value since it opened in Crozet. We have known the founder/owner since she was a student at CATEC. Spent many hundreds of dollars there and this was how they treat loyal customers? Never again.

If there was an option to leave no stars I would. Worst salon experience I have ever had. I had to coach the stylist on how to do makeup (e.g. blending the lines on my face, prepping the face for makeup, lipstick application, and eyeliner.) If you are in need of a full service salon for a special event from out of town my suggestion would be to go somewhere that specializes in it. As far as an updo, the stylist told me I did not need a shampoo as my hair was already clean, and I was charged for it anyways. When I inquired about it at the register the cashier told me there was nothing she could do and did not offer an apology or any attempts to make it right. I wish I would have done everything myself and saved the $95.

How awful for you to have had that experience when we try so hard to be excellent. Julia has been one of my top bridal hair and makeup stylists and the brides have loved her. I would love to offer you a comp visit with me, the owner, at your next opportunity for us to try and redeem your judgement of us. Things happen, but it is what a salon is willing to do to correct it that matters. The front desk has instructions to book you with me. I look forward to meeting you.

I do like the color and cut I received but the experience took away from that
I have been to Face value before and always enjoyed my experience but this time I was out with a different provider and did not enjoy it very much. She smelled very strongly of cigarettes and spent the majority of her appointment complaining about one of her friends. Also, I was not offered the usual complimentary hot towel massage

Meghan, we are so sorry to hear your experience was less than exemplary as your last visit. Thank you for making us aware of how your experience was so that we can use this as a coaching experience for our stylists. We strive to make sure that for every client, every visit is memorable in a good way.

I have never written a negative review online before, but I have not had this bad of an haircut experience in over 10 years. Unfortunately my haircut experience with Julia was not good at all. I was very hesitant to look for a new hairdresser in Charlottesville after moving here from Chicago, and unfortunately my worst nightmare happened. From the moment that I found out Julia was going to use THINNING SHEARS on my ENTIRE haircut I seriously thought about running out of the salon, and I really should have, but didn't since her profile said she had 25+ years of experience. Anyway, I explained to her why using thinning shears might not be a good idea. I explained that though my individual hair is coarse I don't actually have a lot of hair and therefore using thinning shears would make my hair too thin and frail, which it totally did! I even tried to steer her away from using them by telling her about the worst haircut I got where the hairdresser razored my whole hair, resulting in the same thin and frail hair. I am so sad as I have been trying to grow my hair out and it was so thick and healthy before I came in today and all I wanted was a trim and to blend in my grown out bangs, but now it's going to look terrible as all of my hair attempts to grow out. I just hope I don't have to cut length off from the damaged and frail hair that is left. She also did not section my hair correctly or check to make sure that everything was even after my hair was dry. I could have just bought my own pair of thinning shears and just cut my own hair without spending $65. What a waste!

I typically shy around writing negative comments because I feel like they can seem rude and I don't want to sound like that. I was just really disappointed with my cut with Julia. She was extremely sweet and friendly, but she barely spent 30 minutes on my long hair-wash,cut, and style. She didn't section my hair when she was cutting it-she just cut it when it was all down, which it feels like she didn't trim any of my layers. She didn't do a professional blow out my hair either-she just blow dried it like I do at home and took a round brush to it a few times when it was already dry. A $60 cut for me is A LOT of money and I was really hoping to have a service that equaled that price. I'm very disappointed, especially considering all the friends I referred to Face Value.

Receptionist was friendly and I observed other stylists' great work while in my appt.
I was referred to this salon/Julia by a friend. I booked an appt a few days before Christmas for a full color and full hilite (on long, thin, hair) because my roots were really long and my blonde was mostly brown now and I hate it. I tell Julia what I want and even showed her a picture. She starts my hair and says "Oh I think I'll just do the hilites because it will look more natural." I agree because I think she gets what I want and can make it happen with only the hilites. She finishes my hair and the hilites were extremely thin and barely even looked as if she only did a partial on top. Brown was still primarily my color even though the picture I showed her was of a girl with light and dark blonde highlights all over. I did not complain when we were done because I had somewhere to be so I didn't look closely at the color. I did however buy shampoo and conditioner from her and gave her a $30 tip before leaving (Christmas spirit I guess) for a total of $240. I've NEVER spent that much on my hair but I had it set aside because that's what I was quoted for the full color/hilite. I thought I WOULD get what I pay for but sadly I did not. I also did not complain within the seven days because it was Christmas time so I missed the deadline by a day. I'm not a confrontational person unless provoked and the more I live with my hair like this the more I feel cheated/angry. I feel like she did what she felt like doing that day, not what I asked/showed her to do. And to put the icing on this cake, I get back to work the next week after telling people I was going to have it done only to hear that it looks the same. $240 for my hair to look the same?! Unless Face Valu is giving me a free "do-over"/major discount for another stylist to fix my hair then I will never go back to this salon and will continue to post my review on Yelp, Google, Facebook, etc. Contact: wag216@email.vccs.edu

Oh Whitney, I am so sorry that your experience was not what you hoped it would be. It is never our intention to do a bad job. Although there is a seven day window to ask us to fix your hair, I would have wanted to know it as soon as possible. Now I find, that several months later, I can hardly see what was wrong as it is time for your hair to be colored again. That makes it hard for me to judge just what went amiss....I saw that you have an appointment on the books for next week and would invite you to come in so we can sort this all out. All the best, Lucinda
